TikTok Is Making "Major Push" Into Gaming

Reuters reports TikTok may be planning to make a big push into gaming. TikTok is testing games for the app in Vietnam that allow users there to play games inside the app. A company representative confirmed tests of HTML5 mini-games, saying, “We’re always looking at ways to enrich our platform and regularly test new features and integrations that bring value to our community.” 

TikTok already has 1 billion monthly active users and adding games to the platform increase the amount of time people spend on the TikTok app which could boost more revenue from advertisements, the report said. TikTok recently surpassing YouTube by some metrics.

TikTok already has some games, Zynga games Disco Loco 3D and Garden of Good were added to the platform in the past. TikTok teamed up with Feeding America to make Garden of Good, a FarmVille-like experience where players could earn points and use them to make a donation. The reports said it is just the start for TikTok’s gaming ambitions.

The report said that the games on TikTok would have ads and revenue would be divided between TikTok and developers. The other companies like Facebook and Netflix expanding their own efforts in the gaming space. In 2021, TikTok owner ByteDance bought the Shanghai-based game studio Moonton.
